Lowrance Fishfinder settings?

I've got an Elite 4 - What are optimal settings for this unit in the salt? depth, sensitivity, etc. I read a link somewhere for Lowrance you're supposed to set depth to double what you are in but can't find it.... damn.

Set your sensitivity to around 60%. As far as depth, just adjust it as you go. With that small of a screen you need to have the sea floor at the bottom of your screen.

The problem I've seen with that small of a unit (or the people using them) is that they are in 60' of water, but their FF is set to 100 or 120'. This basically takes the usable and pertinent area and divides it in half. Now, picture a yellowtail cruising at 10' below you. Now you have 1/10th to 1/12th of the screen to your (dis)advantage. Guaranteed you're gonna miss that fish.

A good "mode" to start with is "Shallow water" mode, but manually adjust your depth.

Once you have your depth changing abilities down, run a vertical split screen and use the 83/200 mode.

And DON'T FORGET!!!! ALWAYS HAVE YOUR A-SCOPE RUNNING. The A-scope is a real time image of what's underneath you without having to wait until it shows up in pixels.

All told, my Elite 4 is great, BUT, I shoulda just saved up and plunked down for the HDS 7 GEN2. People may chide away at "the idiot with the PA and laptop on his Scotty mount" but I don't give a shaiza. I don't wanna miss anything if I can help it.
