New Gaff
I've lost 2 gaffs this year, one to theft and the other to the ocean. I thought I'd try some thing different this time. Picked up the hook at SquidCo and bought a carbon fiber golf club at the 2nd hand store for $5. Cut off the club head and drilled a small hole. Had to grind down the bent sharp peg end of the gaff hook. Then got out the tuna cord and got my wrappin on. Thought it turned out pretty well. Looks cool any way. I'll find out when I test it on a gaffing sized fish. Mike

Nice work!
Not to sound like too much a critic, but you might want to re-wrap one of the black sections around the hook and leave a long tog end to attach to a wine cork. That way you've got your hook protector attached to the gaff. Another option is to run a piece of plastic hose under the wrap around the hook and bring that out to cover the hook point. Looks killer though. I've been wanting a longer gaff for a while and might have to go this route. Much cheaper than buying a gaff blank! Thanks for the idea. Hope you get to test it out soon! |

Gaff
I've been using my golf gaff for 6 years now it has been great. I made mine shorter than yours. I put some gorilla glue on the line that holds the hook to the shaft. That area is now heavy and can double as a fish bat.
I found a G-Loomis golf shaft at play it again sports and will eventually have a G-Loomis gaff. |
