PB Halibut
Launched from Shelter Island beach and headed toward the 40 foot level. Drifted with the outgoing tide and cast up current with 4 inch swimbaits on a half oz. red headed jig. Caught a few sandbass right off the bat and had a big break off on 30 lb braid and 20 lb floro. Went straight to braid and repeated my steps and hooked into another heavy fish. Felt like a hali and took my time getting to color. Gaft and freeked out and back down 20 or so feet. Second time was the same story. Made me lucky to know it was still on. Third time was the charm. Measured 36 inches and fat belly for 18 pounds. Thank You Lord for my personal best.
