also the tackle shop just behind the harbor on pch is having a spotfin contest this month. winner gets $50 store credit.

Uh, I may be mistaken, but that looks like a corb...great ceviche meat.
If it had a small barb like protrusion under the chin, it definitely was. Plus the jaw structure does not jibe with a juvie WSB.

Catch those boys esp this time of the year all the time from the surf.

Nice post though...

If the inside of the mouth is yellow and there is a couple of long teeth in the front, Shortfin Corvina. It kind of looks like one by the lack of bars in the picture but the mouth will tell.

Its a wsb . No fangs no color in mouth. The mouth wad pointed forward and kinda up with tiny teeth. Beans are toward the bottom and have smaller mouths, tail is more rounded than forked and the pectoral fins look like butterfly wings when spread.

Hey, do you kayak the harbor too? What kayak do you use? Im relatively new to kayaking in So Cal and just moved to Vista, and have not had much luck on the fishing side. Any help on where to go fishing would be appreciated, i went to the back lagoon at Carlsbad but had no luck .......

personally i think they taste way better. 3 or 4 of those guys and you got yourself some delicious tacos or fish sandwiches.

they're scattered around here. its all about presentation and colors. what works for one fish wont work on the next, constantly varying your retrieves and bouncing the bottom will let you know if there's fish in the area. dont hit a spot once then move on, ill make 5 or 6 casts into one pocket or along a single boat mixing up my retrieve.
