I think World Wide Sportsman (owned by bass pro, but they do all the salt water gear) has a kayak trolling motor that is a really short shaft specifically for kayaks. I will look it up.

Still not entirely sold on the motor . .
2 years ago, I bought a used x factor set up w/ a minkota trolling motor. It Has the peddle steering system and the 6 speed control forward 3 reverse. All nicely mounted. The motor is a pretty cool feature, but since my fateful smashing last summer by the surf, I haven't used the motor cause I'm too lazy to install the new control knob/switch I lost.
In action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXkw4...56AUAAAAAAAbAA The lay-out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDGTu...ebAUAAAAAAAcAA Pluses: - nice to have a little extra help when the hands are doing other things AND you don't have a Hobie Mdrive. Negatives: - Requires a big/heavy marine battery (that's what I use) - Supposed to get CF #s on a motorized watercraft - I can use it for almost a full day, but it zaps a bunch of juice from the battery and eventually I don't enough juice for the fish finder and almost always have to paddle back. - When the motor running, steering into kelp, or your own fishing line is a drag (I've done that too). - Having to climb towards the back of a yak w/o spilling into the drink is always exciting when attaching or detaching the motor while at sea. (I usually go covert and paddle in/out of the harbor cause I just don't need to be hassled by OC's finest). All that said, I am working to get my motor situated cause the option to use it when I want would be nice BUT not necessary. Fish on. |

I nearly bought an OK Torque myself last year, but opted to buy a Malibu Stealth 14 and outfit it with a 46# thrust Bassyaks saltwater motor & "lift kit". The lift kit allows you to raise and lower the motor from a sitting position in the yak. With Bassyaks motors (MinnKota) , you steer with the pedals just like in the Torque. It's a nice set-up and a helluva a lot cheaper than the Torqueedo. The drawback is the heavy battery of course. I had CJ at OEX Mission Bay rig mine all up, and they did a fantastic job. Go to http://bassyaks.com/ if you're interested. ACK sells the Torqeedo - you can see it here. http://www.austinkayak.com/products/...ing-Motor.html I'm hoping that as battery technology improves each year, soon I'll be able to replace the Optima Blue Top with something lighter. I tested the Torqeedo out on a Hobie Outback, and although powerful, I felt it had a bit of vibration and was noisy compared to the MinnKota. Here's a few pics of the Bassyaks on my rig... Bassyaks Systems are the only kayak specific trolling motor kit out there.
They are the most adjustable, maneuverable , expandable, trolling motors in the world! Capable of longer run times than the Torqeedo, more rugged than the Torqeedo, and way more adjustable. At 1/3 the price Tight Lines Steve |

Just finished updating all the motors on KFSupplies. Pricing may not be all input for options yet, just waiting on Adi to upload my spreadheets For a general idea look at the Wildy one, that is all correct.

That system popped up on Bayou Coast and a few other boards last month. Didnt see much for positive response though. That is a group where motors are more accepted than our area as well. |

want to test it out
i have a 2010 outback with evolve motor . has 587ci hummingbird fish finder installed .motor has low hours . less than half a dozen . it is capable of pushing the outback at wide open throttle for more than an hour in heavy current at 4- 4.5 knots. i am willing to part with it for the right price . have all standared equipment, IE seat , paddle , fins. kayak has been out a dozen times. motor is 2000$ , yak 1700 plus , fish finder 500$ . i will part with it for half , negotiable. pm.
