Newport still deadsville
Launched around 7am, slight overcast but not too much wind. Paddled south to CDM and threw some plastics for a bit with no luck. Saw a ton of bird action over two boats to the south so got nosey and went to check it out, tying on an iron just in case. (its good to be optimistic sometimes) but it was just a ton of macs chasing a few dines. Threw the iron around a bit anyways with nothing to show. Good amount of baby macs about 6" in the water so decided to take a few and drag em for hali. Drifted the kelp line, went and drifted the harbor then pounded the sand between the harbor and balboa pier. Nothing. Throwing every color plastic in my box this whole time too, without any takers. My only sign of life the whole day was towards the end when my last mac got hit hard drifting back inside the harbor. Reeled in to find just a head left on the hook. Thinking back now I'm pretty sure it was probably a smart seal. Wish I'd been using a trap hook.

Thanks for the report. I'm glad I decided on Dana today. Newport should turn on in a month or 2. I love it when it finally turns on, the fish chew hard.
