Lambcrew, looking for exotic lamb!

Adi and I set out from MB at 5:30AM with the mini-X on board, intent on finding the dodos. About an hour out we ran over our first paddy. Literally. Neither of us saw it until we were on top of it. Nobody home. Found another shortly thereafter, also empty. Continued charging when we both spotted a fin.

SHARK! 100lb or so mako lazily cruising on the surface. Tried to bait it or get it to go on iron but it just kept finning. Finally ran right up on it and got it to boil a bit, then look as though it was going to leap in the boat. Pretty cool. Sank out after that so it was back to searching for salad.

After another fruitless hour of looking and not finding either paddies or a good temp break, we start heading back. Finally see birds working for real and a bit of something in the water. Start a drift and Adi get's picked up and dropped almost immediately. As we are debating wheter it was a real hit a fish comes shooting out of the water off our bow. DORADO!

Adi throws a fresh bait and I throw the mini-X in the water and hop on. Paddle towards the object (turns out to be a plastic bag) and right as I get to it I get picked up. Set the hook, turn around, and see the dodo come flying out of the water. It's on! Comes to color pretty quickly with a bunch of followers. Discover that mahi-mahi don't fight much, but they are a bitch to gaff. Once they turn sideways it's almost impossible to raise them the last 3 ft to stick 'em. Finally get it close enough for a shot. The result...

Pics, hand off the fish, fresh bait, and I'm paddling back up. Bag doesn't seem to be holding much but Adi had said he saw a paddy nearby and I finally see it close by. Paddle over in a hurry. Halfway there I get picked up again. This one has got some shoulders, but still comes to color pretty quickly. However, it takes ten minutes from there becasue I just can't get it in gaff range.

Finally get it right and stick this 20.4lb guy.

Adi was hooked up and landed one from the boat while ths was going on. After we get my fish on the boat he says "My turn!". More than happy to oblige, so we swap. He paddles off and I try to figure out how to run his boat. By the time I get the engine restarted he has paddled back to the paddy and is bendo...

He seemed to have a smoother time of things, and this soon happened...

He was content with that one from the yak so I hopped back on. The fish were foaming, jumping, breaking all around, but seemed to get picky. I kept seeing 4 or 5 go right under me but they wouldn't touch my bait or a megabait. Adi landed another from the boat and I rejoined him. Decided to do a final drift before the long run home when I hooked up and landed my third. That was it other than a little boney on the troll and a just short ling at a last stop on the way in.

Tremendously fun day on the water, all we could ask for, and it's always a pleasure to be part of lambcrew for a day. 3 each, and 3 from from the yak. I think we were both a little surprised that we'd actually pulled it off, and it sounded like we made the right moves as compared to some other guys at the landing. Once again, the mini-X proves to be a vicious fishkilling platform when coupled with the right mothership and captain!

Excellent work on the exotics! Those fish are a blast on spinning gear. I have gotten them to go in the past using a bucktail skipping it on the surface.

Nice report Brad and Adi. Congrats on the dorado. It looks like you can see land from one of the pics. Won't be to long now before someone gets one on the yak from a beach launch.
Pemex I don't know if you were serious with your question but a mahi mahi and dorado are the same fish.
