Why everyone who can should enter/donate to the Steve Moyer memorial tournament
In July 2009 my 3 year old son Dylan was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma. He had a malignant tumor in his thigh that was 8cm x 5cm(the size of a small lemon)that had also spread to his nearest lymph node and to 2 spots in his stomach. He had stage 4 cancer. This needless to say was devastating to my wife Christy and I.Nothing really can prepare you for such news.
As if all this wasnt bad enough, work was tough for me at that time(still is...)We are a single income family.I am a finish carpenter by trade and we all know the economy is tough on the construction trade right now.Things were tough, and when things are already this stressfull, money problems just make things worse. I had decided to sell my Kayak. It seemed expendable at the time since me going fishing would be completely selfish(it seemed)since my son had a 54 week high dose Chemo schedule I didnt see myself fishing in the near future. I was out of work and Cyberfishing one September afternoon when I stumbled across the post of the results from the 2009 Steve Moyer memorial tournament. In the post Jim had said they raised and sent X amount of money for the ACS.I said thats awesome since we where getting gas $$$ reimbursed from the ACS and told Dylans story.Jim had relayed that this tournament was started to help someone battle this disease and that Matt also thought it would be a great idea to help us.We recieved $2000 from YOU WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE TOURNAMENT,DONATED,DONATED TO THE RAFFLE ETC...and I can tell you we needed it bad.We also had gotten a few donations from some others as well(Thank you Greg and Steve). We owe this cause a lot but unfortunately I cant make it this year(cousins wedding)so I figured I would write up a little something. Dylan is now 13 months Cancer free.He started kindergarten today.Jesus works through everyday people and listens to prayer. Thanks to all of you for lifting us up when we needed it.I am including a few pictures of my son during our struggle and a few from last week when we went to the Aquarium. The kayak that I didnt have to sell has since caught many a nice fish, including the 56 inch beast in my Avatar. Thanks to the tourney, all my gear didnt go on the chopping block.I just finished some work for a sportboat captain and traded my work for some sick new gear(D8,800m,trinidad 20,seeker,calstar)so I am back up to about 20 rods again.I am selling a few things to donate to the Steve Moyer tourney(Matt I didnt know your dad but just dont feel comfortable with the abreviation SMMT) I have a Sealine 40 and an SS690J seeker jigstick and some other items. Please take a look. This year a brother in Nor-Cal needs help.Lets help him...
