Kayak work advice
Hello everybody,
I'm new to kayak fishing and just bought a Macski Explorer to get started in the sport. I've had trouble finding reviews on this kayak, but it seemed like a good buy. The one concern I have is that it is fiberglass and I want to do some work to it (installing a fish finder, additional rod holders, etc..). I've got experience with this on plastic kayaks, but never a fiberglass one. Is there anything different from the drilling, sealing, and such that I need to be aware of? |

I'm no expert, but have done my share of work on fiberglass... Are you located in San Diego? Even if not, check out this website:
http://www.dmc-ca.com/ This company is a wholesaler for fiberglass and other materials, and are very knowledgeable. They are located here in La Mesa. They can point you in the right direction as far as what epoxies/ resins/ cloth weights etc for your specific application. They are open to the public and offer small enough quantities of product for individual projects. Prices are very reasonable too, as they package all their own products. If you are in another area maybe you can find a similar supplier- Beats the cheesy fiberglass kits from Home Depot, and the prices and advice are better than the overpriced marine supply stores.. Hope that helps. Otherwise, I'm sure the experts on here will chime in. Good luck |

Check out the Australian Kayak Fishing Forum for info on mods to fiberglass fishing skis. Search in the Do It Yourself and Rigged Kayak forums. The Stealth skis are the most popular in Oz, but the mods should be similar for the Macski.
You should also try the South African fishing ski forums and manufacturer websites. Kayak Fishing South Africa Fishing Ski Forum at the Fishing Corner website
