Catch and release, Dana 2-8-10

Fished a quickie @ Dana this morning. Total fish count was 3 Cali’s, 2 Sandies, a short halibut, and a rock/kelp combo. Perfect size dine’s @ the bait barge. Wind was minimal, sun was out. Nice way to kill a couple hrs. Some good size rollers came through, waves were breaking over San Juan Rock, and they kept going until they hit shore. Water was muddy in close, but cleared up nicely outside the kelp line.
Highlight of the morning had to be hooking 2 small calis on the same line. 1 on the trap, 1 on the trailer, both went after the same horse dine. That was a first for me.

Sandie

Fought hard, but was no match for the 15lb

All fish and holdfasts released to fight another day

Steve, NICE!

Admit it - if you snagged that kelp, that hanging rock must have had you hoping till the surface!

Inspirational!

Two for one on the Calico's, thats pretty cool!

Nice release on the rock. I would have been tempted to put a gaff in it.

Steve,

Great report. Waves breakin' over San Juan Rock
all the way to the beach. I know exactly what
you're saying, since I been eaten on the inside
fishing for calicos right there. I've watched unsuspecting
boaters, kayakers, and paddled surfers eat it inside
that channel. Where, by the way, can be a very productive
area for spring-time WSB...

Tyler, your gaff would have probably broken if you tried to gaff that rock. hahahaha

That is probably true. That's why I'm going to a shop in Little Italy tomorrow to get some calcutta bamboo for a new gaff.
