My best day at LJ
Sunday 9/20/15... What a day. Those of you out there today know what I'm talking about.
The bite was hot! Fish were shallow and it seemed like everyone was within 300 yards of each other all day. And half the group had a fish on the entire time it seemed like! I landed 5 yellowtail today. After my 3rd, I ran out of bait. I threw the surface iron for a few casts and hooked another one. I released this one which was probably 8-9 pounds to let him get big and strong. After this, I caught a 4 more macks for bait. The first 3 macks got eaten by seals. When I had my last bait out, a whale started breaching like crazy. Pretty much everyone fishing started watching it. I was watching it and eating a snack when my clicker started screaming. This YT tangled in kelp so it took me 30 minutes to get him in. I'm going to try to keep heading out every weekend, but I'm probably going to release the YT from now on because I have so much meat in my freezer. Plenty to last me the off season. |

Awesome report!! Should have cashed in a honey coupon to get a bonus day this weekend..
So what's the method to saw a fish out with braid? Just reel till line becomes tight, put reel in freespool applying pressure to spool and let fish run, reel in and repeat? |

You got me all wound up again.
My kayak is still in my van from yesterday. Maybe I will go out again in the morning. On second thought, I think I will. What the heck, it's almost Monday, and fishing is a good way to start my weeks work. Gives me time to think :P Lately, after picking up bait I've been heading north to the 30 fathom contour near the canyon (180'), then following that southwest toward the NW corner, then I turn in closer to the kelp. On Saturday I ran out of mackerel and switched to a Tady 45. Got three bonito's right away that I didn't really want. I kept one to taste. Would you recommend closer to the kelp or farther out?
