Fish Story LJ 1-3-15
This one's just too good not to post... Went out Saturday after a 3 month break from yak fishing due to some medical problems and I came home with a first - Landing a yellowtail without hooking it. Here's how....
Sent a bait down to some fishing looking marks on the sonar and fish on immediately. Fellow BWE member, Chris, had the go pro handy and hopefully has some good video. This fish is heavy but no long runs like a YT. I get it to color and notice it's not hooked. Instead, the fish has a lasso around its pectoral fin - flouro is wrapped one time under the base of the fin with the hook holding the lasso together just above the fin. Even an inch of slack at any time and the lasso would fall apart and the fish would have swam away! A great start to 2015 plus a story and witness to the 1 in a million catch. If I didn't see it with my own eyes I would not have believed it. Fantastic job Pat! It was a great day on the water with you guys. It was awesome how you and Chris nailed fish. I had to head back out yesterday to get on the score board. Hope to see you out again soon.

Crazy chit there. I caught a Hali by snagging a small loop of mono that was attached to a large loop that was a lasso around its head. The gill plates were keeping it in place. I released it (less the necklace) to fight another day. Got it on video somewhere too.

Congrats, sorta ?
Call me a stickler, but pretty sure DFG calls for catching finfish with a hook and line or by hand, not by line alone (even though the hook was holding the lasso). Just a heads up as this is a public site |
