LJ halibut

Beautiful day on the water as always. We have made countless trips now with no luck until today. Bait was a little hard to get but after an hour and a half I finally had 12 greenies. Was looking for my first yellowtail but decided to send one to the bottom. Hooked one that took me for three hard runs and wrap me up in kelp and lost it. Sent the second one back down and within 45 minutes was picked up again. Not much of a fight from this one, was brought to gaff in about five minutes. I didn't get a measurement on length but was weighed at OEX Mission bay at 36 pounds. New personal best!

Care to reveal what kind of bottom rig you were fishing? Dropper loop? Carolina rig?

Sick butt, way to go!

I was fishing a Carolina rig 2 ounce egg on the bottom with a circle hook. Thanks guys, out of all the years fishin in the lagoons and bays catching shorties, this is only my second legal halibut. The freezers full and it's fish tacos and beer for the next few weeks!
