Kid wants first kayak...any beaters out there?
My 10 year old has saved up about $127 and wants to try and buy his first yak. Save me the lecture I know what they cost.
I'm just wondering if anyone has an older, former rental yak, maybe with patched holes that possibly fell off a rack on the freeway and has been left in the sun beside their house so one side is bright orange and the other is faded yellow... but "still works great/catches lots of fish" they'd like to unload. Thanks, Casey |

I don't know what size you're considering, but I got an 8' Ocean Kayak, Yak Attack for my 9 year old son and it is plenty big enough for him. It's stable. Anything bigger, I don't know if he could move it easily. I have a spare rod holder to put on it. I would typically carry all the tackle. He only needs a small cooler for some snacks/drinks.
I got it used off Craigslist. |

Malibu mini-x is great for kids and on the plus side it paddle well for adults because of its high payload rating, track well and fishes well too, super lite can just toss it in the car and go. I got one for my kid as a used rental from OEX many moons ago...Hes used it a few times I use it all the time.....mine was super cheap, but it had a crack in the seat that I fixed no problem and i added a center hatch that cost $50 and a couple rod holders .

Just telling you about it as a reference for a kayak that works well for our family since you didn't specify what size you wanted to buy. Trying to be helpful.
