Newport 8/3
Launched at 445am from kids beach with my roommate, got a scoop of smaller sardines from the barge and headed toward pelican point. Got there and fished the dines both flylined and with a 4oz slider around the deeper kelp.
We fished until about 1230pm and had caught a few short bass and barracuda which was fun as everything seemed to be on the surface. My roommate caught a decent sized greenback on his jig and decided to send it down with the 4oz slider - about 10 minutes later his drag is screaming and he is getting dragged out to sea. I chased him and was able to get the assist on this monster! Such a fun and rewarding day, we have been steadily going out in the kayaks for almost 2 years and this is by far and away the most substantial fish we have taken. These steaks will be enjoyed, that is for sure. Tight lines! |

I didn't see Tony Rigatony (sounds like a legend) - we didnt really see any kayak fisherman down south towards CDM normally we do. There were a few circling the bait barge on our way in. I think we might of seen each other at the launch in the morning though! Glad to see you had a fun day
