Las Encantadas - Sandmen
Friday – March 14, 2014 in the dark of the morning the sandmen began their work making dreams come to life. On this assignment, the sandmen were Makobob, Sven, his father (Handsome), and Walrus. By 6:10am we were speeding south I-15 bound for Las Encantadas via Mexicali.
We crossed the border without incident, were briefly checked at military checkpoints by friendly soldiers and made it to Las Encantadas by 1:00pm. We might have gotten there a little earlier but Sven was pulling a trailer containing a Polaris 4X4 and a dump trailer designed for the Polaris by Sven. We were concerned about how the trailer would handle the vados, so we slowed down a bit. The new highway is great!

After unloading the equipment the sandmen began their work, which is of course moving sand. Years of windblown sand had accumulated against the rock wall at the side of Bob’s and Rob’s foundation. The sand was higher than the wall in some places and needed to be brought down to the foundation level so framing could begin. “Handsome” at 80 years grabbed shovel and worked shoulder to shoulder with the rest of us. By Saturday evening at 5:00 PM we had moved nearly 26 cubic yards of sand.

Robmoney and Ron arrived at 2:15pm Saturday and started the framing. Two walls were partial complete by Sunday morning and scheduled to be completed on another work trip around April 4th. You can contact Bob or Rob if you’re interested in helping out.

http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/a...pictureid=1758 Many you will want to know how the fishing was, the answer we don’t know. We went with a focus on the task that needed to be completed and left the tackle home. However the kids next door did catch some trigger fish from shore. http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/a...pictureid=1759 A huge thanks to Ron for making the fantastic grilled pork roast and hot wings/legs on Saturday night. After getting home from the weekend I sure slept good, and dreamed of catching big fish at Las Encantadas. You know, Bob keeps telling me dreams do come true, so I’ve got to go back soon and find out.
