Newport harbor

I was thinking about going out for rockfish tomorrow early morning . This will be my first time going out of this harbor by myself. I have my fish finder and I’m going to see what I can find. I would not mind if any of you fine gentleman wanted to join me... lol. I heard that parking in the coast guard parking lot was free and had a good launch. Any thoughts?

The USCG beach is where I launch in Newport. Long slog through the sand, unless you can make the turn in the sidewalk by the bathroom. I can sometimes pull it off by myself with my Ride 135. A 12' or shorter kayak should be no problem. There is a launch on the peninsula that a lot of guys use. It has a short walk through the sand, but a drop off a wall of about 3'. Not sure what parking is like over there these days. It also has the benefit of being able to launch any time of day. The USCG parking lot doesn't open until 6am, and they will cite you if you're too early.

Good luck out there, hopefully you find 'em.
