First trip out
Bought an Aquaterra last week and geared it up for fishing. My maiden voyage was in La Jolla on 5/19 . I couldn't find any bait (I dont have a fish finder yet) so I ended up tossing my flat fall. My 3rd cast I had 2 yt chase it right up to the boat, I couldn't get any action after that. I'll consider it a success for my first kayak trip. I'm trying my luck again Wed.
Any advice would be appreciated. |

I would definitely consider that pretty good luck for your first time out at La Jolla and using a jig. Congrats on making it out there and back safely on your first outing.

Not bad. That is good luck.
Ive had my finder crap out on me a couple of times over the last 6 years. I know the dilemma trying to find bait w out it. It's harder, but not as hard as you may think. Look for surface action. Watch out for water that looks different than the rest. Sometimes you'll actually see the bait breaking the surface. Watch the pelicans too. And the best thing you can do is not give up. Try the sabiki any time u get that feeling that something is around. You may get lucky. And when nothing that you've used in the past is working try new off the wall ideas to catch bait. Have fun |

Heavy weight at the bottom of your sabiki and troll it around til you find a school. Better than a fish finder. Green backs will bite your bait jig at cruising speed no problem.
