La Jolla Black Sea Bass 4-15-18

Today had a couple firsts, caught my first Black Sea bass 🤙🏻 then crash landed the shores hahah. What’s everyone’s guesstimate on the weight? I have no idea I just know this thing pulled HARD! Successful release

Is that the GoPro Session?

What software did you use to edit?

Id say that BSB was 80lb range. They sure are fun to catch but pretty much burns you out for the day.

The landing?? I'd recommend jumping out waist deep on days were the surf is somewhat big and the intervals are close together like they were yesterday. Once that PA turns sideways your done.

Some guys jump off and hold onto the back on the big surf days and ride it in.

All in all great video and catch!

Thanks! No I have a hero 6 and it’s on super wide angle with 120 frames per second. I use my Mac book pro to edit with the editiong software that comes with it called imovie. It’s super user friendly and I have no experience editing video but the program makes it simple.

I got a Black Sea bass yesterday also I have just a short cell phone video because I was trying to release it as soon as possible mine seemed to be about that size but mine was hooked on the forehead area between the eyes lol I caught mine around 8am could it be the same one ? Notice any mark on the forehead or was yours before 8am?

Mine was probably around 9-10 and I don’t remember any markings on it’s head or anything but I will say the runs it was making I doubt it had recently exerted itself an hour prior haha

Great video. Even better editing. Very entertaining.

With the BSB population on the rebound, I wonder if they will ever become legal again.

I remember an event that occured about 45 years ago when the entire San Diego Lifeguard Service feasted from harvest of one 500+ pound BSB. which was speared by our Captain at the time, Bob Shea. If I remember correctly, Bob was free diving in the waters around San Clemente Island.

This would have been a world record at the time but the fish was strapped to the boat's swim deck, out in the sun for two days, before coming back to port and being weighed. It came in a couple of pounds short.

It was the best fish meal that I can remember.

Bob
