Hi this is my first post here... We'll be heading down to Newport Canyon outside the harbor on our rookie kayak/fishing trip tomorrow morning. Will be at the launch on E. Balboa Blvd at around 5:45 or 6:00. Need to know any of you going because of our safety concerns.. thanks

Forecast for 10-14mph winds midday (not much fun!). Conditions much more calm on Fri. Be careful.

Yeah water/weather conditions are looking rough for the rest of the week. If you decide to go out, take some Bonine & be careful.

Ok thank you for the warnings... we'll go by the bait barge inside the Long Beach Harbor from 72nd St. launch but maybe going closer to the outer breakwall... Is that safe???

I fished Newport today... Day started off good. Had to go to the barge because there was absolutely no bait in the water. ANYWHERE. After getting 2 scoops I headed to the kelp and first firt of the day. Unfortunately, this fish was not landed (enough said )..... I re-baited and BAM! Nice Calico on the yak. Immediately following that Calico was the wind! The wind picked up and it was very choppy. The swells were huge at the wedge. When it got rough, the fishing stopped. You could stay still for more then a second, paddling was a bitch.... So I went back inside the harbor and messed around for a little bit and headed home.

My plan is to give it a go again on THURSDAY because that looks somewhat decent in the forecast. I'll be launching at the end of M Street with one other yakker. Your welcome to join if you want. I havent finalized the time yet because its all depending on the conditions Wed night.

I fish that breakwall a lot, and i mean it when i say a lot lol. I wouldnt go out there tomorrow. 13mph winds at 5am isnt going to be fun tackling.
