BoB Captain's Meeting on June 3rd.

Our second Battle of the Bays kayak tournament is on June 9th in King Harbor in Redondo Beach and OEX Sunset Beach is our Hobie Sponsor...

The Captain's meeting (not mandatory, but advised) is on June 3rd at Island Tackle in Carson at 10am. If you have never used the iAngler app before I advise going to the meeting and practicing submitting photos to the app to be sure all is working correctly.
Our speaker will be Chad Gierlich the owner of Hookup Baits. I'll give some tips on submitting photos on the app and measuring your fish, then Chad will have the floor.

I pre-fished with Chad and Frank from Hookup Baits on Memorial Day and it was slow…lots of bass marks on the sonar but very few biters…they were using the Hookup Baits and I was using the 5oz. AHI live deception (mega bait) metal jig. The north side of the canyon had better current and that's where we found the willing biters. There were a few short Butts in the harbor caught on the 5/8oz. Sardine color Hookups.

Mike at the bait receiver had some really nice blonde slimy Sardines this weekend and says he should have $10 kayak scoops available for the tourney he also has a few bait sleds available if you want to fish in the harbor but don't have a bait tank. Mike will also have a cooler out there on the receiver with some frozen squid for sale.
I fished solo on Sunday while using only the Sardines for bait and the BIG rockfish loved em and so did the bigger Bass.
IMHO, I'd pick up some squid to put on a leadhead and also get some Sardines as insurance although there was bait all over both sides of the canyon and tons of Macks available so bring a sabiki.

Island Tackle is at 21809 Avalon Blvd. Carson, CA 90745 310-707-1205

If you or a friend are considering participating in the tourney, please sign up now so that I can better estimate the food and drinks and get a better idea on the total number involved.
We are at 32 anglers registered at this time.
