I have found the summer prior to el nino has been very good, which would be this summer

Bad for squid and thus seabass, good for fin-bait yellows and offshore species.

There is a fairly well documented inverse correlation between water temperature and the spawning behavior of Doryteuthis Opalense.

Usually means warmer water temps, but the results are not real predictable. Could be good, could be bad, also depends on the species.

This is all hearsay, but I have heard of people catching dodos on kayaks after the last el nino. Not quite sure of this storys accuracy however.

Lol we were catching 20lb yellowfin tuna on half day boats out of daveys locker from the last real el nino and that landing is as bad as it gets for charter fishing

Typically it means good fishing during the summer, and terrible weather in the winter, but we'll see if that holds true.
