Question Radio question

I've read alot of posts on here regarding the importance of carrying a radio for safety. My question is what frequency or channel should be monitored or contacted in case of an emergency?
Thanks.

Channel 16 is your first and 9 is the second

16 will get you tuned into the USCG but keep this in mind.....Much like all other vhf radios your handeld vhf works by line of site and does not have a strong signal so just because you call for help doesn't mean someone will hear, that's why its important to also carry a cell phone. Its unlikely that you will fish so far from the coast that you will not have a cell phone signal.

BTW......floating or not, leash your radio. TRUST ME
