Thresher Tackle Set-Up
I haven't done any thresher fishing. but would like to have a rig ready next time I go out.
I have an MXL single-speed and a MXL Raptor, both with 65lb braid. What would be the tackle preference from there ? Thanks! |

I would highly recommend NOT using spectra on threshers. That's a good way to loose a finger.
Use mono with 80/100lb leader. it's a lot safer and easier to handle a thresher when getting ready to land it on your kayak.

I use braid all the time for them, I don't grab the line to bring them in anyway. I use a Calcutta 700 with 65lb braid and a light wire (Knot2Kinky brand) about two feet long.
Works like a champ.

Live or dead bait under a big float about 3" under the surface.

Thanks for the advice on the thresher set-ups. I'm hoping to hang my 1st one soon.
