LJ 4/21 flying fish
After working the outside for a whole lot of nothing, I came back in to one of my rockfish spots. Saw something break on the surface but couldn't ID. Headed a little shallower and the flyline got ripped but didn't stick. Then the bottom bait starts singing. Flipped it in gear and turned around to see a thresher tail slap the water. Little guy, but fun. He was foul hooked and got wrapped quickly so he didn't run much. Then I unwrapped him and he took off, turned around, charged the boat, and came shooting out of the water like a missile.
Got about 2 ft out of the water and landed about 2ft from me. I really thought he was going to land in my lap. Pretty cool little scrapper. He looked tasty like a veal, but was released to grow.

Too funny Mad.
The only thing I have in comparison is that I had a little Mako (about 10 pounds) jump in my buddies boat when we were at the upper 9. We were shark fishing, but I expected them on rod and reel. Nice release on the lil' critter. |

I couldn't quite believe it when I saw him lighting up. As he came out of the water I just though, "Oh sh*t". Then it looked like he was going to try to get frisky with Tyler. Lot's of fun guys, see you tomorrow, and thanks again for the pics.

That was awesome. When I saw you guys panic and the line start to shoot for the surface I grabbed my camera. I wasn't even shooting in burst mode. On the water I couldn't tell if I got "the shot" because my camera is in a dive housing, and the screen is so small. I just got lucky.
I only took about 4 pics of the whole situation, but I took a lot of video. Here's the video with some stills from the video, and the pic from Chris at the end: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbxUuTaL6OQ

Nice little T.
That underwater shot made that vis. look ok. What would you guys say it was? I was out at the Scripps aquarium during the week and it looked like red tide was in. Your pics make it look like it may be diveable. thanks, Nate |
