Newport Harbor, 1/9/16
Launched from the USCG station at 6. Left my thermos of coffee at home....
Fished the outgoing tide, which was a good swing, from -1 ft. to +6ft. Caught and released 10 spotties. Didn't see many other kayakers out there. It was a really nice morning. Water was from 56 to 57°F. Picked up a bucket of trash after landing back on the beach. There was trash everywhere. Saw a DFG warden, which is a welcome sight. I may go back out tomorrow morning. Thanks for the report. I'm hoping for next Fri if it doesn't rain.

I'm leaning towards daytime, as I doubt that I'll have a light set up by then. But, lets see how the weather goes. Maybe I could do daytime on Thursday and night on Saturday.

I need to get a light solution figured out as well. I will probably end up doing something like this: http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/s...ad.php?t=15546 It's a pretty good solution, since the LED light is made for on the water use and is submersible. I will probably end up using Gray PVC (electrical conduit) since it is resistant to UV. It's also cheaper. |

Good idea with the light. I might have to go that route. I'll let you know if I go Saturday night.

Lighting
Flashlight or headlamp is all you need I think. Never been bothered by Coast Guard yet. 360 white pole light is better but not required. Check here for good info http://bit.ly/kFK7HC

Regarding the light- I just ordered a Tektite Mark III 4 LED "Marker Light" for $25. I plan on installing it in some gray PVC conduit, and mounting it in one of my rod holders. The quality of the Tektite lights is decent from what I've read. Also made in the USA.
Apparently the Tektite lights are used on the Yakattack light poles. |

I place a portable battery lamp type flashlight in my cup holder. But usually just have my headlight on so it doesn't blind me
