Free Fishing
I probably should have posted this sooner, but this weekend is free fishing in Washington and Oregon; no licenses or parking permits needed.
Spring chinook salmon fishing is pretty good, smallmouth bass and walleye are good, always big lings and rockfish in the ocean and every kind of trout you can imagine. Scenery is pretty nice and we go some great breweries(if you're into that kind of thing). Free camping anywhere. Get in the truck, stock up on Mountain Dew and drive up. You can be here for a full day on Sunday.

It's amazing there, wish I had time to do this. It's only a 12-14hr drive to the Oregon border from SoCal.

I wish I could do this on a whim... I would literally need to drive the entire length of California!
Now I have a strange urge to plan a road trip around Free Fishing Day in Oregon... fishing all the way North along Highway 1. |

There's a lot of untapped kayak fishing potential here for sure. Thing around here is that, most of the time, you are on your own. No crowds to speak of at 99% of the fishing spots, a big change from SoCal.
It would be worth a road trip up here for the fall salmon run. Pretty exciting fishing, you can camp anywhere you want. I spent many years kayak fishing at La Jolla and North County reefs, as far as ocean fishing goes, it's pretty tough to beat. You guys are doing alright.

I'm up here in Brookings right now with the family and am practically crying because I do not have my kayak with me!
Some nice protected launches just north of town and what looks like some killer rocks where fisheees might hang out. Next time kayak comes along. |
