Any suggestions as to where can I get an affordable vhf for my kayak?

West Marine has the full spectrum, i got the VHF50 for $99 with the extended warranty and a freebe water proof bag.....working well so far. If it's more than $100 ask them for the sale price (it worked for me)...

These aren't bad for the price and you can split one with your yak buddy:
