Fishing The Dana Point Kelp Beds | The Strand

Ryan and I headed out of Dana Point harbor and headed north to the Strand to fish the kelp beds. Cesar met up with us a little later on.

When we arrived it was low tide. There was very minimal wind and best of all the kelp was floating on the surface. It looked amazing!

It took some time to find a productive pice of kelp. The water temperature dropped to 60°. It was a slow day, but we all went home with a few fish.

Jealous of the flat calm weather -- it's been blowing in my area. I feel your pain when you lost the first one while trying to clip it. Recently lost a small Blackfin after gill and gutting it -- slipped out of my hands when I went to put it in the bag. Dana Point is a beautiful area.

Great video. Looks like you have a sliding sinker. Do you just cast out and let it sink to the bottom or drop it straight down? Just wondering if the weight should be away from the hook during the presentation.
