Battery question
Hello
I tried searching but I could not find anything on the forums. Is it safe to use a 12 volt 7.2amp vs 12 volt 7.0amp battery on a fish finder? I have always used the 12 volt 7.0amp but found a 7.2amp on sale. Does the .2 make a difference ? Thanks! John |

Any 12 volt will run it, the amps will determine how long...the .2 may give you an extra 15 minutes

What he said! most say ampH or amp hours i believe. I've been contemplating jumping up to a 20 amp hour, since i got the livewell pump and the ff running on it. I just need a bigger pelican case too

The duration of the battery is dependent on the current draw of the device/fish finder. So, if you have a 12v 10amp battery, and is rated at 10ampH and your fish finder runs on 12v and draws 1amp, you can run your ff for 10 hours. If the ff draws only .5amp, then it will run for 20 hours on that battery.

I have a 12v 10amp hour battery, because I also run a bait tank off it. When I only use the fish finder it hardly uses any charge and it could run for like 4 to 5, 11hour days with one charge. When I use the bait tank with a 300gph pump it will run easy for over 14 hours because I use a timer that OEX sells (cost like $35). It's wired into the tank pump positive line and I programed it to run the pump for 25 seconds and shut off for 25 seconds. It just keeps repeating whatever time you program into it. That keep the water fresh, reduces the strain on the bait of constantly having to swim against a strong current and reduces the amount of charge the tank uses.

I think as long as you have your in line fuse installed you should be OK. I know my Lowrance has a 3 amp in line fuse to protect it.

The battery ratings are not amps, they are amp hours (AH). Like Iceman said, that number is the capacity of the battery which tells you about how long it will run your electronics before needing a recharge. You can run a 5AH battery or a 100AH battery if you wanted, as long as it's 12 volts.

If you're in this for the long run don't be afraid to drop some money on a LifeP04 battery. I ran mine last Saturday from about 5am - 12pm and again on Sunday from about 530am - 11am.....roughly 13hrs without charging it.

+1 on that info. These batteries can take a LOT more charges than SLA batteries. I have a 12AH for my FF and I can go days without charging. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
