Thanks for the info on the vhf, I ordered one for my wife, it came this morning and it seems like a really good unit. I can pick up radio traffic from my home about 6-8 miles away from the waterfront in national city

I've had one for a while, the problem is that I always listen to music on the FM and miss any fish/bait reports or calls for help on the VHF. I think I was a couple hundred yards away from those guys teasing the big Mako last week but I was listening to SRV on 103.7 when they radioed for assistance, never knew it was happening until I read about it later. Both FM and AM are weak, the antenna is optimized for VHF. But you'll get the Charger games and several music stations.

listening to FM classic rock while on the water always makes the fish bite for me. thus, i'm fairly sure SW gamefish are Rock & Rollers as well.
i bet Iceman agrees.
