New Here Checking In
Hi everyone. Im new to the board, and just wanted to introduce myself I'm Mike. I have been lurking for a little while and finally signed up.
I am not new to Kayaking or fishing in general, but kayaking fishing is new for me. I had a Ocean Kayak Drifter and used it at LJ at least a couple times a week, just to get out on the water. I sold that and now have a new to me Hobie Outback that I want to rig for fishing. I fished commercially on an Albacore/Cod boat with Jigs/live Bait. Also fished in Alaska for Salmon. Outside of that just some local lakes with the kids while camping etc. I would still consider myself a total rook when it comes to fishing from rod/reel in salt water. So Im looking for help/advice/pointers on getting some gear to get started. I have been reading as much as I can here to learn more. I appreciate any advice or help. Also, if anyone is selling some gear send me a PM. I still need pretty much everything. Looking forward to meeting some members here and hitting the water. |

FishnJeep,
You're gonna have a blast. Especially this summer. Yellowtail fishing should be simple enough. Just flyline a greenback mack on 6ft of 30 or 40lb fluro backed with 50-65lb spectra. Get your macks on a sabiki near the kelp. Where to drop your mack? Watch for the birds, and/or large marks on your FF. Best times are when you've got a good current flow. Watch the tides and winds to time your trip. There's tons more to learn, but, that's the fun part. La Jolla has got great kayak guides as well. Also learn how to post pics and/or vids: so we can see your first fish and yellowtail meal. |
