Custom Gaff
I have been thinking of making my own custom gaff and finally started it yesterday. I am lucky enough to have some bamboo plants around my house and used a bit of cord from Homer Depot. Wanted to make a "calcutta" style but with my own design on it so started in with the Dremel and engraved this Egyptian hieroglyphics version of the BWE dude in the bamboo. Flamed up the bamboo for some rustic burnt effects and more contrast with the image. I will be adding a turks head to the handle (if I can ever learn how to tie one) and then some varnish coats and butt cap. Let me know what you think.....
It reads left to right as you rotate the gaff......I made it 30" long. Not too long but longer than my current stubby aluminum one. -Steve |
