When the split ring is just to dam small....
Play with it awhile, before you go with a double surgeons loop with Berkley 6 lb vanishing fluorocarbon. A couple of Tasmanian devils rigged with a couple of gamakatsu #8 octopus circle hooks.

I really don't like hooks in a line loop
I would never do this for yellowtail, but if it breaks I'll tie a separate knot on both hooks I have never had a surgeon loop slip.

Nice arrangement of lures ready to go Mitch.
Sometimes hooks with bigger eyes, are cheaper and more practical for such situations. I like the hooks to be as free and unrestricted as possible on a lure, so that leader looks like an interesting option. One of my assessments of a good quality bait hook is how small the eye is. Gamakatsu hook eyes are typically tapered steel thinest at the end. Pro Bass brand hooks are generally cheaper, have bigger eyes that do not taper. |
