Earned myself a lollipop!
Launched yesterday at 0530 with JOctane. Made about 10 pieces of bait (4GBM and about 6 Spanish), then headed out a bit. Time was about 0730. We were in pretty shallow, maybe 70-75, straight West of the condo. Nothing too scientific.
Dropper loop GBM one crank up, and really slow trolling. Reel started to sing my favorite song, and in a few minutes, up came 25# of yellowtail goodness. I haven't been on the water in over 6 months, so this was a nice welcoming back. About 1000 hooked into a beautiful blue shark. Maybe 6-7 feet and 75-100 lbs. Amazed that my 40# flouro went unbitten. During the fun, my finger did not go unbitten. Mr(s?) shark took a little taste of my finger. Slight fleshwound, and a lightly black/blue knuckle. Anyways...earned myself a lollipop! Photo credit to JOctane.

Nope. Lollipop was for catching a fish. Even shared it with the fish. Look at that smile of him enjoying that lollipop. Mmm Mmm Mmm.
Finger is good.

Thanks for the props on the fish gents.
Nice to meet you too Momo. As far as the stickers go, I put a couple important stickers on starting at the back right...WWP, BWE, Seeker, Avet, Kelp, Charkbait, etc. Folks I like and support. Then I started at the back left with all the breweries that I've been to, and well before I knew it, I had wrapped all the way around the front and back around the right hand side, almost all the way to the back. I actually still have brewery stickers to put on, but no more room. Anyways, let's go fishing.

Congrats on the nice yt.
I haven't heard of a blue shark in LJ in a long long time. They are a pelagic shark n hooking one that shallow n on the bottom would be extremely unusual. Weird things have been happening lately tho. I mean no disrespect but I'm a fish nerd and very interested if it was a blue. Any chance it might have been a soup fin? Lots have caught lately. Thanks. Mike. |

Hey Mike,
Maybe it was a soupfin. I had to Google what its mouth and teeth dimensions looked like, as I have that image permanently burned into my mind. Just the arrangement of the teeth, proximity to its eyes, and the rough shape of the snout...so let's just call it a soup fin. I appreciate your brains amigo. Rob

Great fish man!
It's a good thing you didn't report to the local news that you were bit by a shark. You'd have made the 5pm Headlines: *** SHARK ATTACK at La Jolla Shores **** Kayaker narrowly escaped certain death....Run for your Lives!!!!!!!!!!! BTW, you should be a Kayak Salesman, you have a Great Smile!! I'd buy a Yak from ya!!!! Keep stickin' it to the feesh Man!!! |
