Kayaking the Owens River
Has anybody ever drifted the Lower Owens, or is it even permissable? I'm considering getting a kayak and would love to occasionally get out for some bay and kelp fishing, but am looking for 'added' fishing opportunities.
BTW, great site and very informative! Curtis |

Very doable and permissable. Depending on conditions, the Owens demands respect. There are no real rapids, but the water is very cold at times and the current can run fast and high. The fishing can be incredible.

Be careful, been fishing that area my whole life and the under currents and big bends can put yourself in very risky poisitions. Some small ladders can come into play as well. Huge brownies and enormous rainbows as well. Fish below pleasent valley res. from shore walking and then get in the water just south of bishop off the 395. Oh yeah do not piss off the locals, whatever you do, do not tell them you are from L.A. if you enquire where to fish.
Good luck |
