Does a plastic grub with a lead-hook count?

Caught this fish

Caught this fish off Coronado Island on a Slugo back in the 90's.

Photo isn't loading, Sorry.

Anyway it was a 100 lb BSB, fun fish on 12lb mono.

I've caught 2 YT, I'm guessing 5 short WSB, and 3 8-10lb BSB on plastics. Those little BSB gave me a thrill cause during the fight I thougt I had a monster cali.

Although I'm from Nor Cal, I recently joined this site. I'm very fortunate to have found this site and look forward to reading more post from my brothers and sisters from So Cal

Here's a pic of my 40"/23 lbs lingcod I caught using ML Trevala/Revo Inshore combo on 30lb PP with 3oz swimbait.

My stringer that day

My first 2 WSB from the yak were on Swimbaits as well as my first few YT, the ones that followed were on iron. I did not make bait on the yak until I had fished 3 years off of it.

People catch them all the time.

I've caught Halibut, Ling cod, Yellows, white seabass, Yellowfin tuna, Albacore tuna, and even threshers on plastic. I've honestly probably caught more white seabass on plastic then bait, but they were small fish, with maybe the biggest one running around ten pounds.

Here's a shallow water Ling I got on the Cortez on plastic that's bigger then that....

Here's a even larger halibut I got on plastic in Santa Monica Bay...

Obviously those are both skiff or boat fish, not kayak fish.

You can pretty much catch anything on a plastics, it's just about presentation, and getting it in front of them, especially when it comes to seabass and yellows, when it's cold you have to put it right on their nose.

I should fish them more at La Jolla but I' usually too busy with bait and Iron to mess with them.
