A Day Late and a Dollar Short

I was talking to Josh over the weekend about signing up for the WSB jackpot
of the WCW. I figured I had time...

As it turns out, I didn't.

Tuesday morning, I was not getting all the bait I wanted. I made four pieces
and gave one squid away to someone who also puts in a lot of time and didn't
get any.

Once fishing, I dropped a squiddy down and after some maneuvering, I was starting
to get picked up. A couple of ticks, but no run. I gently pulled up my rod
and there was still pressure, so I waited. I played a little, but after no more
ticks on the clicker, I decided to check my bait. It was mauled and lifeless.

I put on my 2nd squid and dropped it down. Now I'm beginning to see hookups
all around me. Dan was hooked up on the other side of a PB, but his fish must
have really run outward, because our lines got tangled and I was no where near
him on the other side of the PB.

Well, Dan didn't freak out, threaten me or anything like that, he just cut my line.
Fair enough, he was on, I was not. I'm glad he landed that fish.

I'm down to my last bait, so I paddled to a favorable position away from the
others in the area. BAMM! My squid didn't even make it to the bottom and I'm on.

It ran away from me, so I instantly had some thoughts that this wasn't the former
"right kind". This was today's "right kind".

After several nice runs, I bring my new best friend to gaff. Weighed in at
56.4 lbs. on the OEX certified scale.

Good Karma, Dave. Who's that short sexy guy in the background? You don't look like you were struggling with the weight of the fish in the pic...

All I can say is WOW! To think that there are fish that big swimming around in our own backyard is pretty cool. Nice job, Dave

I think it's a matter of perspective and positioning. Where I was yesterday,
there were plenty of hook-ups.

Today, was a different story. I wasn't in the right spot and ended up with a
single rat yellow at 29lbs. lol

Actually, it was 0.4lbs. which equates to 6.4 oz...but we both can be happy with those fish.

I was all smiles yesterday and I can only think of one way that yesterday
would have been any better...

...a nice piece of butt - a 40lb. 'butt.

Great ghost - congratulations.

Good call on "paddling away" from the crowd to get bit, I think yakkers spreading out will help the fish landing ratio and general bumper-boat issues.

Where's !
