Fish ID ?

SE Florida, on a muddy bottom in 420ft on a slow pitch jig.



Looks similar to an Ocean Whitefish, What is it?

I have seen your fish photos used as references of different sites. What do you use to do your ID work? Do you have some kind of Peterson's Guide? Or is there a website?

Hey John, check out inaturalist app. Bernie showed me it and I've been using it ever since. Snap a photo and biologists will tell you what it is and it helps them gather data!

Yeah iNaturalist is good, and they could use more photos for offshore species. Not a long of anglers use it.

This is the book I'd recommend:
