LJ Week Old Report 8/6

Went out for my first time ever to La Jolla. Was trying out a friends Cobra FnD and wanted to see what I could catch. Saw lots of smelt in the water, caught some on a sabiki and tried to use a few as bait, but no takers except for the mackerel on cut smelt. I ended up catching a few greenbacks (cut smelt and megabait), a small bonito (megabait), and a jack mac (also on the megabait). I fished the north edge of the kelp. I'm sure I could have been in a better spot, but I'm still learning. I did see a lot of bait being chased in and around the kelp. Also saw a pod of dolphins smash up a bait ball less than 100 yards away, but I never went over to fish it.
