New kayak and a question

I just ordered a Stealth 12 from OEX that should be ready for pick-up next Friday, so of course I want to take it out right away. I'm thinking San Diego bay for the the first trip, but I don't know whether I should go to Tidelands or Shelter Island for the first launch. I would like to pick up up a halibut in addition to the catch and release bay bass and sandies I know are at both spots. If any one has any suggestions or advice I would certainly appreciate it.

Thanks

I'd go to Tidelands. You will be able to get used to fishing off your new kayak with way fewer powerboats buzzing around. I've had success halibut fishing out in the channel near the bridge, just watch out for ships coming through.

Corey,

Thanks for the info. I know all about the Navy ships coming up the channel, although up until now its been from the bridge of one of the ships keeping an eye out for those pesky boaters and the occaisional kayaker fishing the channel. After watching someone with a nice halibut a couple of sea and anchor details ago I decided to take the plunge myself.

If you want some flat water for the first test ride then head a little
further south to J st. No Navy boats and there is a speed limit.
Fishing is pretty good too.
