Launched around 9 am at Big Rock, avoided the sketchy 6' sets. Picked up a few nice spanish macks around 60' deep in the few remaining kelp stringers. Went oustside and fished deeper around 110' off Marine St, flylining macks and also trying the bottom. Saw a boat catch 2 small yellows on sardines, I would guess 6-8 lbs and some cuda....
Got my macks stolen a couple times - some slow very lame bites (cuda) very dog-like - and some bumps on the single-hook iron. Lots and lots of good marks around the 90-100' area, huge schools of something fishy, probably just reluctant cuda.. I finally came back inside 40-60' of water, and saw the birds dipping around the kelp areas. Threw iron and had cuda nipping and following, and even a huge calico chased the jig to the kayak. Finally switched jigs and caught a bonito, and had some other foamy boils on the surface iron. Time to go in, flylined my remaining live mackerel inside there and the calicos were all over 'em. Caught a bunch of calicos up to 4 lbs. and released. Broke some fish off on 20# in the kelp too. Landed around 5 pm, got in dry... but there's a building SW swell with overhead sets at Big Rock. Whew.
