That's just insane. The title, $900,000+ in winnings and losing a record b/c a "for-hire" deckie didn't have a license is beyond heart breaking. I don't know what to think...Responsibility always falls on the boat owner and team captain. Checking licenses for new people on the boat should be routine, but I can see how a step like that could be missed. Maybe I'm alone on this, but unless this level of action is specifically outlined in the rulebook, it seems like maybe an "asterisk" next to this year's winning boat and the record is deserved more so than disqualifying them from the competition after they've won it. But if the rules state "automatic disqualification" then that's what they gotta do. Good story, thanks for posting.

my sister fished that tournament this weekend...such a stupid mistake.. im sure the fellow went into hiding.
