First kayak trip
So my buddy and I both got our kayaks last week. He got a Cobra Murader, I got a Revolution (both used) We are planning our first trip for this Sunday out of Newport beach. Will launch at the Coastguard beach, play around in the bay and if we feel good, go around the breakwater into Corona Del Mar. Couple of questions...
Should we just buy the bait at the receiver? Never made bait before, don't want to use up half our time fishing for bait. We do not have a FF yet. What would be the best couple of set ups for WSB? I don't know if they are there, but you can't catch them if you aint fishing them. Matt P.S. Love this website, been on it for many hours each day....great advice....wife probably thinks I found a new "girly" site Last edited by StinkyMatt; 06-15-2010 at 12:34 AM. Reason: spelling |

Bait at the receiver used to be $10 for the kayak and that got you "free refills" all day. Not sure if that's still the case. So its up to you if its worth it...Making bait isn't hard but does take time. But, if you want macks, you'll probably need to make bait either way. I think the newport bait receiver used to sell macks for a buck a piece too<--that equals not worth it.

Where are you fishing out of? If you are fishing out off La Jolla you'll want to make bait because that is a long paddle from Mission Bay to La Jolla. I have thought about paddling out to the North end of Point Loma Kelp there by Mission Beach.
