Big Sur Kayak Fishing?
I'll be camping for a full week in big sur later this month. Hoping to get out on the kayak a couple times, do some rockfishing etc. I'm still waiting on a registration response from NorCal Kayak Anglers forum, so I'll try the south crowd for some answers.
Anybody know of good places to launch and fish in the big sur area? |

I have seen good things from still water cove. Not sure if that is close enough.

What Dan said, or Mill Creek just south of the 'Kiln, or keep going a little more to the pirate launch at Pacific Valley. Then there's Willow at the far south end a bit past Jade Beach. All of these are brutal at times.
Every time I've seen it, the south end of Sand Dollar has been mellow, but there's no way I'm dragging a decent open water 'yak down those hell stairs. If you're talking the north end of Big Sur, you might look at Garrapata. Again, its a DIY deal, with goat trails and short cliffs to deal with. I haven't crossed this one off my list yet. Andrew Molera used to be do-able, but the MLPA beat me to it. Pfiefer Beach would be insane, that area's a wind tunnel and the surf always seem to be pumping. Good luck. |

Pfeifer Beach is insane. Take the turn off at Sycamore Canyon. Ive been there 3x. The first 2x the surf was tiny as in LJ launch tiny, the other time it was like Waimea shore break....
Even if you dont yak there (which I didnt) its a great spot to check out w the family. We never saw a soul and I was there in July/August. check this link: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://static.flickr.com/3227/3037720210_13790866b4_m.jpg&imgrefurl=http://wiki.worldflicks.org/pfeiffer_beach___sycamore_canyon.html&usg=__sMRxPcgujy3r7OHKrpzvsMeGV3M=&h=160&w=240&sz=40&hl=en&start=16&sig2=YPUyXOEDWAaV8Ijc5pa35g&um=1&itbs=1&tbnid=vlnF_IO3USioOM:&tbnh=73&tbnw=110&prev=/images%3Fq%3DSycamore%2BCanyon%2BRoad%2B(to%2BPfei ffer%2BBeach)%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG%26rlz%3D 1T4HPND_enUS308US242%26tbs%3Disch:1&ei=4Z8PTMO4LY-hnQeUzaSvDQ Good luck, PS- Where is that Jim Sammons video of the guy launching in Big Sur to the dismay of his family? |
