halibut worms??

Was looking around the gallery - lamb posted this

Kind of freaked me out - what do you do? cut that part of the meat out and toss it? Or just cooked it up for extra flavor?

The worms are just added flavor when cooked properly or frozen for at least 3 days. I have heard the same thing about gutting it before it dies.

I believe the parasitic worms are already in the muscle and do not migrate from the gut after you catch it. Regardless, the worms are killed with proper freezing and/or cooking. Bon appetit!

Viking knows his stuff...
Also, after you filet your halibut and picked out what you could, put the filets in the refrigerator (not freezer) for about 1/2 hour. The temperature drop will cause the worms to try to escape from the flesh and bring them to the surface of the meat. If you're lucky you will be able to pick off any remaining worms.
