Leo, Leo, Leo: What a fish!

Wednesday I took my daughter's boyfriend out
mid-afternoon. He is an experienced ocean kayaker,
but no salt water fishing experience. None.

Of course, while I was untangling him from his
sabiki rig and untangling his bird-nested reel,
yellows blow up all around us. All I could feel
was my intestinal tract bird-nesting...

No fish for us, however, Leo had this grin a mile
long. Although he is a professional pilot, posting
his fish stories is still beyond his reach. (That's
what wives are for, right Leo?) I offered to help.

I'll post your pic, you tell your story. Plus I'll throw in
BBQ Kama as a suggestion.

That's one hellava fish, Leo!

Thanks Yani! Collars look good. Too bad you couldn't get the daughter's bf on a fish. There is only 1 way to tell if a guy is marraige material for your daughter- Attach him to 30 lbs of freight train on his floating piece of plastic. That'll separate the men from the boys

Yani, Thanks so much for the post, that's so nice of you; if the world is full of people like you it would be heaven.

Yani- When did the yellows blow up around you? Must have been dark or almost dark, because when I lost sight of you guys nothing was happening up to that point. I didn't get another shot at one that night landed at about 8:40. What time did you guys get back in?

Sterling,
While you were fighting your fish, early on, we
encountered those yellows just alittle beyond
you close to the kelp. We were supposed to
be fishing for bait.

But, me and my daughter's boyfriend were doing
the Wa-To-See Two Step much to the delight
of the surrounding Foamers.

I've learned that I haven't the stomach to be a
Guide. There aint enough Greek Euros in Germany
to pay me to do that again...

No wonder Josh has so many grey hairs.

Early in my LJ kayak career I would go to effort of taking a buddy. Using all my equipment I'd load pack it all and pick them up. Then drop them off and unload and clean it all up. Needless to say I don't do that anymore. They just slow you down way too much. I think if you guys did hook up there we were in about 80 or less feet and kelp was everywhere. It may have been a kelp job if you'd hooked up, possibly a la Leo and steal one out. I got to get out more and get back on the scoreboard, it has been way too long.

great fish Leo!!!

and Yani, i agree, the best way to separate those who "wanna catch a yellowtail" from those that really want it, is to scribble down the GPS cooridinates for the lower NW corner, 110ft and say "meet me here at 4AM".
