4/17 back on the beach by 8AM

because it sucked! Around 5 AM it felt like 12 kts and had me debating going to the pier, that and it looked like the lights were not over the water. Mike Knott was going to head west, a couple others bailed. By the time I parked and was ready the wind seemed to have died a bit, so I hit the pier, the lights were in the middle, nothing but a smelt. Trolled the sabiki and picked up a double and another and another. On my way across the canyon and it started getting snotty. Finally at the yellow can, it took me about an hour to get even with the hotel, 20-25 kts. Did one speed drift back to the reserve and headed in. Surf was sloppy, but surprisingly small for all that NW wind. I think I surfed some open water waves that were bigger than at the beach, tomorrow looks better, I may have to try again.

Dang Andy! Bulid my hopes up with the title and then crush them mercilessly with the first line. You are cruel. Thanks for the report anyways

I saw it at 1:00 this afternoon and it was still ugly with strong onshore winds. PM session is probably not a good option.

Just got back from Scripps Torrey Pines and could see the popcorn white caps from the top of the ridge. When we went into the hospital in the morning it was sunny and the water looked consistenly blue from shore to horizon. When we got out at 1:00PM - there was full cloud cover and the inshore water reflected way off color. Weird science.

Andy - was the water turned over from the storm run off?

LJ PM bail out.

I'm sure someone went out, it was sunny and blowing hard when I decided to bag the PM shift-
Whitecaps all the way out.
Looks like AM or PM tomorrow-

Water Temp

Went to South Carlsbad for a little after work surffishing. Seems like the water temp has dropped about 4-5 degrees. Feels around 56-58 degrees. Current was ripping, not 1 fish between the 3 of us.

Summers got to get here soon!

I was working up by the cross today and noticed what looked like the beginng of a red tide around lj cove and out of scripps. Not sure if it was just the clouds or what. Anyone know if the red tide is already showing its ugly head?

thanks

unfortunately yes, it's patchy and not very strong yet, but I saw some over the weekend. OC and LA are reporting red tide too.
