O'side harbor
Went to hide from the wind today at oceanside harbor. Looks like they are in the process of dredging the harbor because some of the equipment is staged along the inside wall of the north jetty. Water quality was not that great just like everywhere on the coast lately. Got out around noon and spent about three and a half hours bouncing plastic off the bottom. Fished in close to the base side of the harbor by the beach rental cottages picked up a couple short butts and snagged two balls of mono off the bottom. Didn't venture outside the harbor. Might give it a go again tomorrow depending on the wind.

no, not off limits. I paddle over there all the time...it's all good provided you have a base fishing permit ($5 for whole year) available to any civilian, sponsorship not required.

Guess I should get one of those. If anyone ever needs sponsorship to get on base for fishing purposes, let me know and if I am not busy I can do. would also love to plan an outing with someone other than me, myself and I since the guy I used to go with is currently deployed. Oh yeah, the bay is not off limits you just need one of those $5 things which I still need to find out where to get. BTW There is a really great launch ramp on the base that you can park next to if you get on the base.

Base permit
For base permits go to the base Game warden. You have to show your fishing license and fork over your 5 bucks. The base game warden office is located on Basilone Rd. From Vanedgrift Rd. turn onto basilone rd and follow for about 1/4 mile. Take your first right. I forget what area that is exactly, but just follow that road and it will pretty much lead you straght there. Hope that helps.
