Monday Morning, back to the grind...
Sunday nights are quite different now that I work from home. I checked the weather for the upcoming week and it said basically there was a small window to fish Monday, possibly Tuesday. I spoke to my wife that night that I was debating going to LJ the next morning. Since it had started sprinkling that night I thought, well there goes my shot to go out. She said to set my alarm for 4:30 and if it was still raining when I got up, go back to bed. What a smart woman.
It wasn't raining. Load the gear and on the road by 5:15. I don't know about any of you but the 20 minute drive to the launch from La Mesa before kayak fishing is an interesting time. I am somewhat superstitious. I have a very specific routine of what I do. I try not to listen to music anymore (partly because whatever the last song I hear before I launch is stuck in my head the entire day on the water). Just a time to think positively about how lucky I am to live in San Diego, the mecca of kayak fishing. Is it weird that I visualize making perfect bait, perfect pickups, perfect hook sets, and perfect gaff shots? Well I do...and I'm probably not the only one. This morning was one of those perfect mornings. Perfect launch, perfect bait, perfect pickup, perfect hookset (well kinda hookset, I use circle hooks), perfect spectra cutting through stringers, and perfect gaff shot. I was off the water by 7:30. It doesn't happen that way often, but I love when it does.

I talked to you on the water as you were heading in at 7:30 am. Thank you for the bait. I fished till about 2:30 had no luck. Caught a large Calico Bass when I dropped the yo yo iron on top of a bait ball but that was about it.

Hey Mike,
Good to put a face and name with an avatar. Hopefully this wacky weather will calm down and we can get some consistent fishing. I'll probably try my luck with the yellow variety next week. Same bat time, same bat channel.
